Hard Reset iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch to Factory Settings

You will need to hard reset iPhone if you have you forgotten your password or your iPhone is disabled  This video will demonstrate how to reset your iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch) to factory default settings, also known as a “hard reset”.  Below are the specific steps you will follow to hard reset iPhone or other iOS devices:

  1. If not already installed, install iTunes on your workstation.
  2. Power off your device
  3. Connect a “Lightning” USB cable to your computer
  4. Press and hold the “Home” button, while connecting the “Lightning” USB cable into your iOS device
  5. Continue pressing the “Home” button until an “iTunes” notification appears on the screen
  6. Switch over to your computer
  7. A message should have popped up that states “There is a problem with the iPhone…”
  8. Click “Restore”
  9. A message asking “Are you sure you want to restore…” should pop up
  10. Click “Restore and Update”
  11. Wait while your device reboots and the restore finishes
  12. Run through the setup process
  13. Once you reach the “Apps & Data” setup, you have three options:
    • “Restore from iCloud backup” if you have one
    • “Restore from iTunes backup” if you have one
    • “Set Up as New Phone” if you don’t have an iCloud or iTunes backup, from which to restore
  14. Finish the setup process

Note: This procedure will wipe ALL existing data and settings on your device so if you need anything restored, you will have to have an iTunes or iCloud backup to restore.
